XXV_MPFW

Hello once again. MPFW returns with number 25! I got a quick congrats to Barack Obama, notes about Rock Band 2's 20 free songs, a review of Quantum of Solace, and a review of the awesome Fallout 3. Before I get to all the fun stuff, I owe a quick plug to The Joel and Mike Show. They were nice enough to plug this here blog even though if he messed up the URL. Yours truly was a guest on Episode 4! So anybody coming here by way of Mike (not me of course), welcome and check out all my Facebook links and stuff.

Congratulations Barack Obama

You hear it hear first, Barack Obama has been elected as the next president of the United States. I don't know much about politics and I don't want to type too much political stuff here. I am truly happy that the country elected the right person this time.

Quantum of Solace review

I am a fan of the entire James Bond series. I have every Bond movie on DVD as well as the original books of "Casino Royale" and "Live and Let Die" by Ian Fleming. Before the movie they showed the new theatrical trailer for Watchmen as well as a new trailer for Star Trek.

Onto the disappointment. No trademark gun barrel James Bond intro in the beginning (I forget if they had it in Casino Royale or not. However, the gun barrel was at the end of the movie with the credits). The pre-credits sequence was underwhelming and probably the worst James Bond pre-credits ever. At first I didn't know it was a reboo
t of the franchise because I thought these new Daniel Craig movies fit in before the original films. Since I found out that it was indeed a reboot, I kept wondering about continuity, like if Judy Dench was the original M and how Felix Leiter was a black guy. Felix was a black guy in Never Say Never Again, but that movie doesn't count because it sucked.

More negatives. This did not feel like a James Bond movie at all. No car (besides the beginning), no gadgets, no humor and they were playing with Bond's emotions too much. The story was pretty lame and the villians were boring. On the positive side, some of the chase sequences are pretty cool like the plane chase. Also, there is a pretty obvious homage to Goldfinger in this movie. Overall, OK movie. I enjoyed the Watchmen trailer more. I gave it a C+ on Yahoo.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe review

Now this might sound lame, but I was looking forward to this game a lot. I love Mortal Kombat and will buy any of the games no matter how bad they are. The only one I was disappointed with was Mortal Kombat Armageddon. I read an early review on IGN that gave the game a 7.5, which gave me hope that this game wasn't going to suck. I picked up my game and got a t-shirt and lithograph with the reservation. I got home, played it and was pleasantly surprised.

I think it's a fun game. It's your typical Mortal Kombat fighter, but it flows better than the previous ones. They removed features like the
fighting styles, aerial kombat and the awful create-a-fatality. There are some new features like free fall and klose kombat. The slow down the action, but make the fights feel more cinematic. The graphics look a lot better than the previous games. Go figure, it's on the new generation of systems.

Story mode is pretty nice and the cinematics are the best quality out of all the previous MK games. I don't know why, but I marked for W
onder Woman blocking bullets with the gauntlets. The story is very short, as well as the entire game. As for unlockables, you can only unlock Shao Kahn and Darkseid. I read there is a strong possibility for downloadable characters around Christmas time. This idea is out of left field, but how awesome would it be if you could download the characters from Watchmen (Rorschach, Nite Owl II, Silk Spectre II, Dr. Manhattan, Ozymandias and The Comedian) when the movie is released?

The game is rated T for the first time ever in the series. This doesn't affect the gameplay since there is still some bloodshed. Also, when you're fighting, characters will get damaged, like scratches and torn clothing. Since it is T-rated, the fatalities are lame. There is no dismemberment and when a character supposedly explodes, they magically turn into a skeleton. Since the DC heroes aren't allowed to kill,
they have "heroic brutalities". They are as lame as it sounds. I've always wanted to have my own fatality in a game. I'd like to share this one I thought of about 2 years ago:

I recommend this as a rental, unless you want to buy it and wait for the DLC. I challenge anybody to this game.

Fallout 3 review

I saw this shown at E3 at fell in love with it. When I got my Xbox 360, this was instantly one of the first games I wanted to play. I had either Fallout or Fallout 2, can't remember which one, on my computer and played only 5 minutes of it. I think it was because the copy of the game I had didn't work properly. Anyway, when I reserved this game I got a poster and a disc with a few songs from the soundtrack. When I picked it up I also got a Fallout 3 window sticker, a Vault Boy lapel pin, the Vault Dweller's Survival Guide, and a t-shirt (which I gave to my brother because it was too small for me). All this free stuff, I like the game already.

Now to the game. Your character is born and your character customization begins. Included in this development stage you're a 1-year-old walking around going "I'm a baby. Waaah." and start your stats (strength, charisma, agility, etc.). Once you leave the vault, you see the epicness of the wasteland. I was in awe here and could already tell I'm going to be playing this game for a long time. The attention to detail is phenomenal and right up there with Grand Theft Auto IV in terms of detail. You go to the near town to gather information. When you talk to characters, you can either be a nice guy or a total douche. Personally, I like being a nice guy in the game, but I might start another game once I'm done and be a bad guy. In the beginning it was challenging because I was low on ammo and I tended to avoid enemies while I'm exploring, but now I'm not having much trouble.

This game was made by Bethesda Software, the same folks who brought you The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. There are some similarities between Fallout 3 and Oblivion, such as the huge environment and the ways in which you talk to characters. One awesome feature in this game is VATS. You use it to target parts of an enemies body and shoot away. With this you can get some cool-looking violence. I love violence and I can never get enough of some over-the-top violence. I was rather oblivious to this, but Liam Neeson plays the voice of your father, and the immortal Billy Dee Williams plays the voice of Three Dog of Galaxy News Radio.

A few problems with the game are the animations. If you're in third-person and you go down a hill, it looks like you walk then drop down a little. I thought the third-person would be more like Resident Evil 4, but it isn't. Also, it can be hard to find the correct way of where you're going inside buildings sometimes. There aren't any only modes, which is OK, and there are plans for DLC. Other than that, this game is awesome and I highly recommend it. Get it now if you already haven't.

Hope you like this one. I don't know when the next one will be. Thank you to all who are leaving comments. It's good to know people are reading and making all of this time I spend writing these worth while. Now get to the Facebook group and do stuff! Take care, friends.
