XXVII_MPFW
I hope all of you had a great holiday. It's time! My year-end awards are here! To get the full effect of these, play the song from 2001: A Space Odyssey (Ric Flair's music for all the kids out there) in the background while reading. Today I bring you The Best of 2008 - Miscellaneous Awards. In this one, we got awards submitted from readers, my miscellaneous awards, my top moments of the year, TV show of the year, and the top 5 movies of the year. To make this even more fun, I got a little contest:
You Could Be a Winner! No Purchase Necessary!
If you leave a legitimate comment on any of the blogs for The Best of 2008, you could win the picture of Ric Flair licked by myself on the album art for SWF 175! Check the Facebook group for a picture. Maybe some other prizes, too. The winner will be chosen randomly and notified via email after a month or so.

Top Moments of the Year
Here we go to begin my best stuff of 2008. No real winner for this category. It's just my favorite moments of the year:
-In early 2008, CHIKARA brought us the epic King of Trios 2008. So much happened in this awesome weekend: Team IPW:UK, UltraMantis Black and Dr. Cube become allies, Mecha Mummy, Da Soul Touchaz's huge ovation, Team IWS vs. Team F1RST, One Man Gang vs. Larry Sweeney in the strut-off of the millennium, and Demolition earning their first point toward the CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas. My favorite moment all weekend was meeting one of my favorite wrestlers ever, Glacier. Back in 1996, this guy was my favorite and as corny as it might sound, this was the most excited I've ever been about meeting a wrestler.
-Me and my brother went to Game Stop for the midnight launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
-On May 2, "Mike's Place For Words" was born. I've always done my blogging on MySpace. I have friends who use Blogspot, so I figured I can get more readers over here. So far, I think it's successful. It's a much better set-up and it's great for when I just feel like typing.
-For the first time, I went to Wizard World Philly. I had a lot of fun, got to see a lot of artwork from artists and got to meet Marvel Comics editor-in-chief, Joe Quesada. I would love to go next year dressed up as The Comedian from Watchmen.
-I won a contest to design the front-page graphic for wrestler Mercedes Martinez's website, www.TheLatinaSensation.com.
-I went to my first-ever concert, none other than "Weird Al" Yankovic!
-On July 22, I celebrated 21st birthday!
-In the summer time, I signed up for Westwood College. It's in online college and I'm working towards my Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communication. It's a lot of work and the best part is that I don't have to travel anywhere.
-In August, I took a day trip with my other brother to New York City and went to an ROH show in the historic Hammerstein Ballroom. This turned out to be my favorite wrestling event ever. (Spoiler alert for the wrestling awards).
-All of the events this year can't be positive, besides nothing big for me happened between August and the end of the year. My Pontiac got a broken head gasket, so I decided to ditch that one and try to find a decent used car. Right now I'm driving an Oldsmobile we got from my uncle. It likes to stall, but it gets me to where I need to go.
TV Show of the Year
I've always liked to sit down and watch some TV. I like to watch the cartoons like Family Guy, South Park, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Metalocalypse. I never really got into any series like 24, House, Lost or Fringe. So here's my pick for Best TV Show of 2008.
Runner-Up: ECW on Sci-Fi
I still enjoy to watch the wrestling on television. TNA is just plain unwatchable, Raw has John Cena and SmackDown has Triple H. I watch the lesser of evils here with only one hour of wrestling. I don't mind Mark Henry or Finlay, John Morrison and The Miz are great together, Jack Swagger is a very good up-and-comer, Matt Sydal (Evan Bourne) is able to do his own thing, but sadly got injured, and Matt Hardy got a much-deserved world title.
Winner: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
This is the only series recently that I was able to get into. I'm pleasantly surprised that it hasn't been canceled. It is on Fox after all. I love the first two movies, Terminator 3 was neh, and Terminator Salvation looks alright. Two long seasons were released this year. A big "WTF?" at the season finale of the second season, though. I enjoy the storylines (if you didn't know, it's on a separate timeline than the third film) and the acting is pretty good. Summer Glau is lovely and it's worth watching just for her. I love the reveals at the end of each episode, like discovering that Weaver is a T-1000. We got to wait just a short time for the third season in February. I recommend it if you like science-fiction.
Top 5 Movies of the Year
I've always enjoyed going to the movies. I felt this was a pretty good year for movies. All of them were reviewed here, with the exception of one. Here's my Top 5 Movies of the year.
5. Tropic Thunder
This is a very funny movie. Story and acting are pretty good. I absolutely love Robert Downey, Jr. in this movie. Tom Cruises's character is hilarious, too.
4. Cloverfield
I have a full review on the MySpace if you want to look for it. I thought it was a good story and liked how it was one person's point-of-view. I didn't see The Blair Witch Project, so I can't say if it was a rip-off or not. Be prepared to get a headache from all the motion.
3. Hellboy II: The Golden Army
I'm glad this one turned out to be good. I loved the first movie and was anxiously awaiting this one. Fun story, good acting, and very good special effects. I also loved Seth MacFarlane as the voice of Johann Krauss.
2. Iron Man
This movie was incredible. I'm glad that Marvel had full control over this movie. Excellent character development and a very good performance by Robert Downey, Jr. On top of that, awesome special effects. I really hope the sequels will be as awesome as this movie.
1. The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight was hands-down the best movie of 2008, and also probably the greatest superhero movie ever made. Great story, great acting, great special effects, great everything else. Heath Ledger's Joker is so awesome and will be remembered for a long time.
Movies that I saw which didn't make the cut: Semi-Pro, Speed Racer, Indiana Jones, The Incredible Hulk, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Quantum of Solace. I didn't get the chance to see The Spirit before this was posted.
That was a lot longer than I thought it would be. Coming tomorrow: The Best of 2008 - Video Game Awards! Comment below to discuss my choices. I'll reply to them, so check back.

I feel like the only thing I have any type of knowledge over is movies and while the Dark Knight was one of the greatest movies this yea and by far the greatest super hero movie, I have to say I think The Movies "In Bruges" was the best movie I've seen this year and possibly any year. It's a great tragic drama/comedy and if you weren't a Colin Farrel fan before you will be after watching this movie.
But still Dark Knight ruled so fucking hard
I'm going to check out that "In Bruges" whenever I get the chance.
Wow best new podcast! I'm honored.
Good call on the Megan Fox pick and also Dark Knight (I'm a huge fan). I heard that "In Bruges" was an excellent movie and I want to check it out. Thanks again Mike!
OK, I take it you want an explanation as to why I said Snake's cross-over appearance in Brawl was LOUSY~!!
Simply put, I don't give a crap about the Metal Gear Solid series of games. They really don't appeal to me that much so I thought, why include Snake? I don't know who I would've rather had in his place, but that's just me.
...And I thought his moveset was bad too. Olimar > Snake. Yeah, I said it!
@Mike Awesome - I'm such a butt kisser aren't I?
@Maurice - No thank YOU! I'm glad I got a good reason to put that picture up. Lovely!
@Boney the Dog - From what I've read, the MGS creator begged Nintendo to have Snake in the game. Snake has a lot of strong attacks, but Olimar is a lot better once you use him more.
Huzzah! Mine are in there!
