XXXII_MPFW

Welcome to "Mike's Place For Words" number 32, the highest numbered MPFW yet! I want to keep the unimportant chat to a minimum this time, so my apologies if this blog feels half-assed. I'm sure reading this will be better than the controls in the Resident Evil 5 demo, though. Before I get to the live review of CHIKARA "Revelation X", I got a contest winner to announce!

The Contest Winner is...

MattyP! SWF's own MattyP has one the contest for leaving a comment on of the blogs for The Best of 2008. He has won:

-The picture of Ric Flair used as the album art for SWF 175.
-An autographed SoCal Val 8x10. You have my word that it's authentic.
-A post-it that says "Wiggly is a jerk" used by Portia Perez.
-A Marisa Miller calendar poster.

CHIKARA "Revelation X" live review

I don't have a picture for the specific event, so I'm using this one. The obligatory "I drove there, saw the usual people and bought stuff goes here." There were some problems along the Canadian border, so LuFisto, Buck Hawke and The Super Smash Bros. were unable to make the show. Now to the good stuff:

Gran Akuma and Icarus def. The Future Is Now (Lince Dorado and Helios)
Alright opener. A little sloopy but still some good stuff in this match. Icarus pinned Helios with a German suplex.

Hallowicked and Frightmare def. Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood
I'd rather see Grizzly as a tecnico since he'd be funnier with that character. This is my first time watching Frightmare, and I liked what I saw. Brodie used Frightmare's chain to take out Hallowicked while the ref wasn't looking. Frightmare rolled-up Grizzly for the victory. OK match.

Daizee Haze def. Sara Del Rey
Since LuFisto couldn't make it, Sara wrestled my favorite, Daizee Haze. This is now the fourth time I've seen them wrestle. This time they weren't on like they usually are. Daizee won an OK match with some sort of pin.

Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw def. UltraMantis Black and Crossbones
Quack worked the arm of Mantis early on and kept asking why Dr. Cube wanted the counter to the CHIKARA Special. I didn't hear an answer. Quack hit a dive to the outside to Mantis who was on top of Crossbones's shoulders. Jigsaw hit the Jig 'n' Tonic on Mantis to pick up the win for his team. Good match.

STIGMA and Colin Delaney def. Cheech and Cloudy
Really good match here. Crowd was really into it. Colin did a lot of lucha and brought back the grounded lariat. Cheech and Cloudy are awesome as usual. Nice finishing sequence in this match. STIGMA and Colin nailed a spike tombstone piledriver on Cloudy to get their first point.

Big announcement time: It's now intermission! Hydra came out dancing to music with a sign that said "Intermission". Really short intermission.

Larry Sweeney and Mitch Ryder are now in the ring. They call out Claudio Castagnoli, but he's on tour in Japan. Leonard F. Chikarason is now out and says the original trios match between The Fabulous Three and The Super Smash Bros. and Create-A-Wrestler is cancelled and neither team can qualify. My favorite quote of the night: Chikarason tells them since they are already dressed for a match, Mitch Ryder replies, "We always dress like this." So now it will be The Fabulous Two vs. Los Ice Creams!

Larry Sweeney and Mitch Ryder def. Los Ice Creams
Really fun match. My eyes were blinded by everybody's attire. Ice Creams were wearing pink, Mitch was wearing bright green and Sweeney was wearing bright orange. Like I said, really fun match including hilarious interaction between Hijo and Mitch. Sweeney got the pin after a middle-rope elbow drop.

Eddie Kingston def. Delirious
Not as good as I thought it would be, but still a nice match. Kingston won with the Backfist to the Future followed by the back drop driver.

The Osirian Portal def. The Colony (Fire Ant and Soldier Ant) to retain the CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas
This match was only 1 fall and Escorpion Egipcio was banned from the arena for this match, since The Colony could pick the stipulation for earning 7 points. My pick for MOTN. Really cool stuff and Ophidian impressed the hell out of me in this match. Fire Ant went for a top-rope fireman's carry, but Ophidian turned it into a DANGEROUS top-rope flip piledriver. Ophidian made Fire submit to the cobra clutch. Very good match, worth buying the DVD for.

Jimmy "Equinox" Olsen def. Vin Gerard in a ladder match to win the Young Lions Cup
Really good match. Lots of good ladder spots in this match. Vin knocked out Jimmy on the outside an removed Jimmy's Equinox mask. Vin was about to reach the top, but Jimmy got up and shouted "I'm still standing!" Vin climbed down to finish off Jimmy, but Jimmy gave Vin a DANGEROUS Death Valley Driver through a ladder set up between the ring and the guardrail. I was getting worried since Vin's leg started having spasms. Work or not, that's just too scary. Jimmy reached the top of the ladder for the victory. Another great match worthy of DVD purchase.

Overall, good show and I enjoyed it. Started out iffy, but turned for the better at Quack and Jigsaw vs. Neo Solar Temple. A nice fix of CHIKARA action until I go to CHIKARA's "King of Trios 2009", which is going to be insanely awesome.

Next time on MPFW, a review of The Maw from the Xbox Live Arcade and The Wrestler movie review! Until then, check out Wrastlin Streams, a 24/7 stream of all sorts of wrestling videos. The link is on the right side. Also new on the right side is a link to my Amazon wishlist and a Paypal link will be added in the future. Take care, everybody. I promise the next blog will be better.
